What came into my mind this morning is, that there are so many things what I would like to do, I know what I have to do, but still, for some reason, sometimes I find myself procrastinating. Has this ever happened to you?
I tend to say things like: “I will do it later” or “Not now, I do something else first, and then I will do it”, but in the end, we will never do the task, never put the idea in practice.
The thing is if we have an idea, and we do not take immediate action, the brilliant thought will vanish. Because our brain will switch into the “protective” mode: “You never have done this before” or “They will never answer” or “Who am I to do this”, will come into our mind.
It seems like procrastination is a strong and mysterious force, isn’t it?
You sat down at your computer, but you get distracted by the birds singing outside, or the breaking news that just popped out and it is important to read it or watch it. 🙂 and you end up by doing something else.
Napoleon Hill said: “Procrastination is the habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.”
Some people, actually accomplish things in their lives – like cleaning, cooking, writing that article, doing that boring job, sending out that email or finishing that personal development course – but they never get done the things what they truly want in their lives, they never get to accomplish their long-term goals because of procrastination.
The IMPORTANT goals in our lives are more challenging, and we tend to do the easiest things first. At the end of the day, we do not have the energy, the time or the motivation, to do the “hard” thing.
Therefore, this is my advice to you: DO THE HARDEST THING FIRST, all the rest can come after.
As Brian Tracy said: “If you have to eat two frogs, eat the ugliest one first.”
If you know your long-term goals, you have the clarity of what you want, and you know that it will bring you happiness and the life that you have always desired, first thing in the morning, after you say “thank you” that you have got another day to live, “eat that frog”, do what it will take you closer to your dream.
Soon it will become a habit, it won’t seem that hard anymore, and one day, you will realize that you are closer to your dreams than ever before.
I wish you all to stop procrastinating, dare to do something for yourself, listen to your inner voice and follow that dream, do that job, write that email or make that phone call what will change your life forever.
