Emotions influence the way we live and interact with others, but if I would ask you to define what are emotions, I believe that it would be hard to express them in words. Emotions have something in common – they all come from inside; from within you.
Let’s take a glance at these emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, disgust, anger and surprise. These emotions can be combined, and the result is different feelings. Emotions are the colour of your life.
Today I am going to talk about ANGER – mind your mental health.
Being angry is part of being human, in normal situations is a healthy emotion what we usually can feel when we are attacked, frustrated or unfairly treated. Anger is not necessarily a “bad” emotion as long as we can manage it, and don’t have a long term impact on our lives.
However, anger becomes a problem when it gets out of control and harms you or other people around you. How well you can manage anger and how you can cope with it, depends very much on your ability to identify and cope with your feelings.
Some common triggers of anger can be hunger, injustice, sexual frustration, money problems and stress associated with this, a feeling of failure or disappointment, taking drugs or alcohol, and a few others.
Bear in mind that chronic anger can affect your mental health, physical health, your career or relationships. Healthy management of anger does not mean to suppress feelings of anger, but rather to understand the message behind emotions and express them without losing control.
What you can do is to explore what is really behind your anger, identify your triggers and learn ways to calm down quickly. It is important to stay calm and take care of yourself.
“Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” – Buddha
When you feel angry, do not focus on things you cannot change. Focus your time and energy on helping yourself feel better.
I wish you all to know well your emotions and learn to let go and control your anger. Find light, peace and love within you.
Much love,
Krisztina
